During the event

How to effectively host an Unboared event, from the first game to the final leaderboard.

Launch the first game

Don't start the game too early. Wait until there's a decent crowd -- about 30 minutes after opening is usually the right timing.

Choose your first game

GeoLoc or Unblind Test are the best options to start with: accessible and crowd-pleasers.

Announce the game

"Attention everyone! We're starting a [game name]! Scan the QR code on the TV to play!"

Help the first players

The first ones to scan set the example. Guide them if needed: "Pick a username, choose an avatar, and tap Play."

Start the game

Wait until enough players are connected, then launch.

Pacing the evening

  • Switch games every 20-30 minutes to keep interest high
  • Take 10-15 minute breaks between games to let people chat and order
  • Mix up game types: alternate between quiz and action games

During the games

  • Comment live: react to scores, encourage players, add friendly banter
  • Get spectators involved: "Who hasn't played yet? There's still room!"
  • Announce the scores: "Player X is in the lead with 1,500 points!"

Switching games

When you want to move to a different game:

  1. Click the Home button (house icon) in the control panel at the bottom right
  2. Choose the new game
  3. Announce the switch: "We're moving on to Bomber Kitten! Rescan the QR code!"

When you switch games, players need to rescan the QR code. Give them a heads-up and allow 1-2 minutes to reconnect.

Handing out rewards

At the end of each game or at the end of the night:

  • Call out the winner by their username
  • Hand out the reward publicly
  • Congratulate the top 3

Post a story or a photo with the winner (with their permission). It encourages sharing and makes people want to come back.

If something goes wrong

  • A player disconnected? Refresh the page or rescan the QR code
  • Sound stopped working? Restart the browser
  • Screen is frozen? Refresh the page (F5)
  • Nothing works? Restart the browser entirely
